Weight: 236.0 (-0.5) Not big but better than nothing considering I was feeling pretty bad about my intake and activity levels this week. All the house shopping has made eating at home hard and Snackers LOADED up on some really tempting snacks the last time we went shopping which inspired me to get some 100 calorie snack packs for myself and I really shouldn't have gotten them because it's just unnecessary temptation that I must now deal with.
I think I found some real winners online and Snackers and I drove around last night looking at houses, peeking in windows etc. It doesn't really feel like exercise other than climbing in and out of the car but it's time for us to find a house and it needs to be done. We found one little nugget of a neighborhood that is just incredible. It's called 'South Valley Ranch' but Snackers calls it 'The Loop' and it is in a part of town that we thought we wouldn't want to live but when we saw it we completely changed our minds. It's this massive community, walled in on all sides with only two entrances/exits and a huge park in the middle. The whole place is so clean and peaceful that, not only did we forget we were in a part of town that we thought we wanted to avoid, I could have even forgot that we were in Henderson/Vegas. There were kids playing ball and riding bicycles in the streets and people walking dogs everywhere we looked. The homes were nice the lawns were manicured, and the park had everything, even an area FOR dogs!
It's one giant HOA but we stopped and talked to a few people who lived there and they said it's a reasonable HOA that just wants to keep things clean and safe, the dues are way reasonable and judging by the Rotty and the two Pitts we saw I am fairly certain that they don't have breed restrictions. I also saw a house painted the color I would want to paint mine so I know it's on their "ok colors" list and I saw several houses flying American flags so that's always good. I mean, I'm probably being paranoid but I've heard a LOT of HOA horror stories and I am just afraid of someday being stuck in one of my own. I don't mind an HOA that wants a clean, cohesive neighborhood because I want that too and I'm willing to weed/mow/etc. I don't have cars that are going to be parked on the lawn or anything like that so considering that I'm already a very low-maintenance person I am thinking that I probably won't have issues but, at the same time, I don't want someone telling me what kind of dog I can have or stupid crap like that.
So we'll probably be going to look at homes in that area tonight after work and I am really excited about it. I have a great feeling about that area. Standing in the park I was looking around and thinking 'this feels exactly like the environment that I grew up in' and that is precisely the kind of environment that I want to live in. It was actually a little bit Stepford even, but in a good way. There are a ton of homes in the area and the vast majority of them looked occupied so that tells me it is a good place to live. I'm excited ... wish us luck!!!

I hope you find the perfect place soon - one that you can make your own with your own personal touches. I would be happy with that weight loss. It's a loss and you are headed in the right direction. Slow and steady wins the race and all that. I would want a place with enough space for a salad garden!! Fresh tomatoes are great!!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping you find a place that makes you happy and your fur babies happy. That place sounds nice, lots of places where you can exercise with the dogs and relax on a nice warm summer night.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!!
And think of the 1/2 pound loss as a LOSS .... because at least you didn't gain weight. As long as you keep heading down, some weeks it will be less than others. But you've still lost a total of 50 pounds. That's not bad at all! :)
The first one we looked at stayed with us through the rest of the homes and we found ourselves comparing them to it. Then we came home, pulled the pictures of the house up on the MLS website and started discussing where we would put our furniture and what colors we would paint it. We talked to our Realtor today and I think we're going to go look at it again, hopefully with a more objective and critical perspective and then, if we like it, we'll put in an offer! Weeeeee.
